The need

Keeping track of who did what in your applications
Monitoring sensitive/financial transactions
Reviewing existing user accounts, their roles and permissions

Such features may be necessary to comply with:

Internal business rules, specific to your company
Legal requirements (Sarbanes-Oxley Act…).
Certification requirements (ISO, CMMI, ITIL…)

The solution

Visual Guards provides the following ready-to-use features:

Reporting: You can automatically generate a detailed report about existing applications, user accounts, roles, permissions, etc.

Application auditing: You can log any event in your application and review this log any time. Visual Guard provides several types of filters to focus on the transactions/events you are currently reviewing.

Administration console auditing: Visual Guard logs automatically various actions available in the console, such as:

• Who logged / failed to log in to the console
• Who granted a given permission
• Console user account locked or unlocked

Auditing for the console

Visual Guard monitors sensitive actions in the console. This allows you to keep track of sensitive actions.
Visual Guard automatically logs events about users’ daily management:

• connected or failed to connect to the console
• user created/edited/ erased,
• password policy edition,
• user account unblocked,…

Visual Guard automatically logs events about permission management:

• Creation, edition, deletion of a permission,
• Creation, edition, deletion of a permission set,
• Creation, edition, deletion of a role,
• Who granted a permission, permission set, role to which user

Visual Guard automatically logs events about applications management:

• Creation of applications in the console,
• Creation, migration, deployment of repositories ….

The logged information is available in a specific wizard dedicated to Auditing in the Visual Guard console.

Depending on your needs, you can filter the logged events on the event type, or on the date.
You can delete old events, and export the information in a .pdf file for further consultation.

Auditing for your applications

You can declare any event to be logged by the console. In the winform and webform samples, you can see some examples of events monitored:

• Failed/successful connection attempt
• Consultation of a form
• Modification of a form

Visual Guard allows you to document the event logged. For example, you can request Visual Guard to monitor who entered a form, if the form has been modified, and what modification has been done.
This allows you to define exactly which event you want to track and to tailor the information monitored by Visual Guard to legal and internal requirements (SOX, CMMI, ISO, ITIL).

Reporting

Visual Guard allows you to generate reports about the existing security data. The document is a .pdf file containing a details about:

• User accounts and password policy,
• Roles, permission sets, permissions and actions
• Applications, repositories.
